Do Good Deeds
Member
Responsibilities
The very heart of this Church is that we "do
good deeds!"
We
are also serious about it! We don't have a narrow agenda as to what type
of good deed you do, as a Member of this Church. For instance, we do
NOT operate a "home for battered women" or an orphanage, although if YOU did
something like that it would qualify as a "good deed" if you just helped a
little, or an "act of compassion" if you organized the whole thing!
Too many churches, we think, preach the doing
of good deeds, and they don't get done, or only a tiny few members of that group
do all the good deeds. In this Church every Member does Good Deeds.
To
enter Level One it would be an acceptable good deed
to take a basket of food to a poor family for thanksgiving -- but the good deeds
at higher Levels of Membership must be more robust.
At
the founding of this Church there were ladies in the town who would go to the
homes of families where the woman might be in the hospital, giving birth. The
ladies would clean house, cook, do the laundry. These are considerable high
quality good deeds. In contrast, giving money, only, to some charity that
distributes food baskets, while acceptable to qualify for Level One, you would
have to have more robust deeds in addition to maintain your Membership at a
higher level.
At higher Levels there is still the
requirement of participating in the book-distribution campaign described below,
but we start expecting our good deeds and acts of compassion to make
considerable improvement in conditions affecting some group or someone's life.
Or, there are charities, and government
programs that you may feel are not truly helping society -- no matter how loudly
they proclaim.
Also,
many people may "think" dim thoughts, and "intend" to do a good deed -- but
nothing happens.
This Church is so serious about doing good
deeds that all Members are required to do some number of good deeds on a regular
basis. Further they are required, to maintain their Membership in the Church, to
send us evidence so that any investigator could verify that such good deed was
done!
There is more, but we also think of "good
deeds" as so important that people are eliminated from Membership for failure to
do, and report, "Good Deeds."
We do have much more of a definition of "good
deed" so that it isn't nebulous at all. Click Here for
further details on the definition of a "good deed."
We actually have a "basic type of good deed"
where every single Member of the Church does this same thing. We have
observed that much of society lacks a common sense moral code -- and that many
religious moral codes are not at all attractive to people from other religions.
We follow a non-religious moral code, even
though we are a Religion. Our Articles of Faith are very different from
most other churches. We believe in the existence of God, but have no
teachings about the nature of God. We leave it to the individual Member to
discover God, and God's characteristics by a personal journey of observation.
Many of our Members are active (or inactive)
members in other churches, with no conflict of any kind with this Church. But, I
assure you, there are no Members of THIS Church who are inactive in the field of
our primary activity -- doing good deeds.
So, one on-going "good deed" which we require
of all Members, should you choose to become a Member, is to enroll in a campaign
to purchase 36 copies of this moral code every month, and give them away free to
anyone you wish.
If you prefer, you can purchase these Books
and allow others to distribute them. Some 60,000,000 of these Books have already
been distributed, free, all over the planet --- with the usual result that there
is an increase in peace and harmony, even in lands of turmoil.
You join this campaign by leaving your credit
card, accepting a monthly charge for the 36 books, and then you can also sponsor
others to do the same thing. You can cancel at any time. You also
earn a commission of 15% on the purchases of all those you sponsor, and another
7 1/2 percent on your second level.
This is a standard "Associate Program."
If there were more than two levels of commission it would be called an "MLM,"
but with only two it is called an "Associate Program."
So, every Member does at least this one good
deed every month -- spreading the message on this common sense moral code.
We expect you to do MORE good deeds, also subject to reporting and documenting
-- these additional good deeds come out of your bright ideas and energies.
We
do NOT encourage just "giving money" as a good deed, but actually doing
something -- with your hands or time.
The minimum level of "good deeds" needed to
satisfy the "good deeds" criteria for Membership at Level One is this simple
campaign -- buy 36 copies of the Book, every month, and give them away.
The 36 books will cost you $38.25 per month. The commission arrangement means
that you can easily sponsor a few people whose purchases give you enough
commissions to pay for your monthly book purchase.
The Church of Compassionate Service does NOT
operate this Campaign, and the payments referenced above do NOT go to this
Church.
Other types of Good Deeds are further defined,
particularly on Level One for eligibility for higher Levels. Generally
they are often defined by reference to doing something FOR a non-profit
(501(c)(3) organization.)
For
instance, you might volunteer to serve as a Scout Leader, or Den Mother, or
PTA President. These would be "larger" good deeds, done in addition to the
involvement in the book distribution campaign.
Going to the Boy Scout
camping weekend, as a chaperon would qualify as a Good Deed and is optional,
in addition to the campaign, to enter Level One, and some of such would be
required at higher levels.
We ARE serious about every
Member being an "active do gooder !"
By way of further explanation, a "good deed"
is typically something done personally that affects just one or a few people.
In order to be a "good deed" for the purposes
of this Church, we must not only get a report about the deed, but get photos, or
other documentary evidence that would convince a reasonable person that there
actually was a good deed done.
Publication in a local newspaper is an
excellent method of validating the existence of a "good deed."
We also ask Members to perform "Acts of
Compassion." Acts of Compassion are 'bigger deals" than Good deeds.
There are examples of both Good Deeds and Acts of Compassion in the electronic
course located HERE.
